The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardized test that measures a test-taker’s mastery of the English language. TOEFL scores are primarily used by universities as part of the admissions process. Typically, those who take the TOEFL want to attend university or graduate school abroad.

There are two main types of TOEFL exams: TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) and TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test), along with other TOEFL tests such as TOEFL Junior and IPT.

The four modules of TOEFL are:

1. Reading: This section involves reading 3-4 passages and responding to questions.

2. Listening: In this section, you’ll listen to audio clips of conversations, classroom discussions, and lectures and answer questions.

 3. Speaking: This section requires you to talk about a familiar topic and discuss material you read and heard.

4. Writing: In this section, you’ll read a passage, listen to a recording, type your response, and state and support an opinion in an online classroom discussion.

Here are some general tips and tricks to crack TOEFL:

  1. Understand the format of the TOEFL test: Familiarize yourself with all of the basic features of the TOEFL and its scoring system.
  1. Set a Goal Score: A goal score is any total score that meets all of your schools’ minimum required (or recommended) TOEFL scores.
  1. Give Yourself Ample Time to Prepare: Set aside ample time to prepare for the exam and hone your English-language skills.
  1. Practice making notes by listening to different audios: On the day of the test, you need to make notes from audio clips that you will listen to.
  1. Have a positive mindset: Have faith in yourself and give your best in the TOEFL test.
  1. Start early: By starting early, understanding the format of the exam, taking practice tests, improving your vocabulary and grammar skills, practicing listening and speaking, and managing your time effectively, you can increase your chances of achieving a high score on the TOEFL.
  1. Be careful in the selection of the last question which summarizes the passage: Choose the right in accordance with the subject of the passage.
  1. Cultivate reading habit: Use the logical order to answer the questions.

Here are the key developments in the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test) that are expected to start from July 26, 2023.

1. Shorter Test Duration: The test will now take less than two hours to complete, down from the previous three hours. This has been achieved by streamlining the test instructions and navigation, shortening the reading section, and removing all unscored test questions.

2. Streamlined Instructions and Navigation: The test instructions and navigation have been streamlined to make the test-taking process smoother. This means that test takers can focus more on answering the questions and less on reading the instructions and other materials.

3. New Writing Task: The Independent Writing task has been replaced with a more modern “Writing for an Academic Discussion” task. In this task, test takers will be asked to state their opinion within an online forum.

4. Removal of Unscored Questions: All unscored test questions have been removed. These were experimental questions that were included in the test by ETS but did not count towards the final score.

5. Simplified Registration Process: Starting from July 2023, the registration process will be simplified, making it quicker and easier for test takers. Test takers can create an account and register for an available TOEFL iBT test date quicker and easier than ever before.

6.Increased Score Transparency: Test takers will see their official score release date upon completion of the test, in addition to receiving real-time notification of changes to their score status. This means that upon finishing their assessment, applicants will be able to see their official result date and they will receive instant notifications if there is any change in the score status.

These changes aim to create an optimal experience for test takers and make the TOEFL iBT more accessible and user-friendly.
