Visa Information
If you are going to study a short-term course in the United Kingdom and are over 18 years old, then you are eligible to pursue a short-term study visa in the UK. This type of visa is applicable for up to six months and can be extended for a stay of up to 11 months for English language courses. If you’re planning for a long-term course, then you’ll need to make sure that your chosen university holds a Tier 4 sponsor license. You can either apply for a Tier 4 (Child) student visa or a Tier 4 (General) student visa for those aged 16 and over.
You need to wait until you have an offer from a university or college before applying for your Tier 4 (General) student visa. Your university or college will then be able to give you a document called a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). To do this, your chosen institution needs to be approved by the UK government as a ‘licensed Tier 4 sponsor.
